How to switch from Handheld Contact Classic to Handheld Contact API using the same username
Posted by Craig S, Last modified by Craig S on 23 March 2020 05:06 PM

This article will explain the directions needed to move from Handheld Contact Classic to Handheld Contact API.  Since these two applications have the same servers for account management, the identical username (email address) cannot be used.  Handheld Contact Classic and Handheld Contact API can be run in parallel but not with the same account.

Note:  Since the HHC Classic and the HHC API are two different products there is no upgrade path from Classic to API.  Therefore, if you want to use the same Handheld Contact username (email address) you must purge the Classic account from our servers.  This also forfeits the remaining subscription time that exists for the Classic software.

Purge current Handheld Contact Classic account:

  1. Go to this link and log into the website using the current Handheld Contact Classic account.
  2. Along the left side sub menu choose 'Edit Account'.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of this page and find the 'Delete your Handheld Contact account' link.  Click on it.
  4. A page will appear with a list of warnings regarding the deletion of the account.  Please read thoroughly.
  5. Click the 'Continue' button to proceed.
  6. Enter the Handheld Contact Classic username (email address) and password into the required fields.
  7. Press the 'DELETE HHC ACCOUNT' button.  A message will appear that the account has been deleted.

Create new Handheld Contact API account:

  1. Go to this link in order to create a new API trial account.
  2. The same email address that was used above can now be entered without problems.
  3. Press 'Create Account' button to complete account creation.
  4. The email address will need to verified.  Please open the email that was sent to the account from above and click the link to verify.
  5. If you do not receive this email, please click here to resend.

Setup Handheld Contact API:

Go to www.handheldcontact.com/setup and follow the specific directions for Handheld Contact API.
