Handheld Contact Secure+ - How to configure

This article will explain the Handheld Contact Secure+ features and what is required to set up from the Desktop application.

The first thing that is required is to have a Handheld Contact Secure+ account.  If you are a trial user, this feature will be enabled by default.  Otherwise, it will be enabled by subscription only.  In order to upgrade your account to Secure+, please click here.  An account which has Handheld Contact Secure+ enabled, will show a green lock icon in their syncing Status.  See this article: how to read the Desktop application.

After enabling the Handheld Contact Secure+ account, you need to configure the Handheld Contact Desktop application.  Here are the steps needed:

  1. Open Handheld Contact on the same PC/server where the ACT! database resides.
  2. Click on Tools, choose 'Security'.  This will set an Administrator account for the Handheld Contact Desktop application.
  3. Enter in the Administrator email address and create a password for the Handheld Contact Desktop application.  Note:  This email address will be used for any notifications regarding Secure+ disabled accounts.
  4. After the Administrator information is entered, press OK.  The 'Security Settings' screen will appear.
  5. Under the 'Secure+ settings' section, you can define the 'Mobile app security'.  The options are:
    1. Automatically lock Handheld Contact mobile app - The HHC default is 'When device goes into standby'.
    2. Permanently disable Handheld Contact mobile app - The HHC default option is 'Never'.  If this is changed, another selection is made available for wiping the mobile app data after 'x' number of failed login attempts.
  6. Set the 'Administrator notifications' (if necessary).  These are used to let the Administrator know if any device(s) that get disabled by failed login attempts or if the account is successfully enabled after being disabled.
  7. Click OK when finished.
  8. Synchronize the account(s) that have Handheld Contact Secure+ enabled.

Note: Under the 'Mobile app security' section, there is a setting for 'Automatically lock Handheld Contact mobile app'.  The drop-down has options for 'x' seconds/minutes of inactivity.  This term of 'inactivity' refers to the overall device inactivity and not specifically Handheld Contact.  For example, if user has Handheld Contact in background and works with other apps, the lock screen will not appear because user is active on the device.  If device is left alone; then after 'x' seconds/minutes the lock screen will appear.
