Handheld Contact iOS version 7.2 upgrade issues
The article will be used for updates on the iOS 7.2 software for all iOS (iPhone and iPad) devices.  This does not apply to any customers who use Handheld Contact on an Android or BlackBerry operating system.  More information can be found in our Handheld Contact News and Development.

UPDATE
: version 7.3 (released Wednesday October 11th)
Please note that the minimum system requirement for Handheld Contact version 7.3 will be set at iOS 9.0 and higher.  Therefore, if you cannot find 'Handheld Contact' in the Apple App Store, you will need to upgrade the operating system of the device.  Click here for directions.

In addition to addressing some bugs identified in 7.2.2, this new build also includes some exciting customer-requested features we’ve been planning over the last month, that we think customers will want to start using immediately. These include the following:

  • A new “tag” mode feature to help users easily build pick-lists of contacts to create easy & fast lookups
  • A new Action icon to easily convert tagged contacts to lookups, which you can then easily email, SMS, and even map
  • Calendar and Task list display enhancements to improve reliability and readability improvements to sync performance
  • Fix some international display issues identified with French and German releases
  • IOS11 compatibility updates with certain devices

If you are a customer who has upgraded to Handheld Contact v7.2 (or higher) from v7.1.2 (or lower) and are prompted for a login, you will need to re-enter the Handheld Contact username (email address) and password.  You will also need to 'start over' with a new resend of data from ACT! back to the device.  Please click here for directions.

What's old is new again!

As excited as we are about these changes, we also want to avoid disrupting our customers any further, so we have submitted to the App Store a product called “Handheld Contact Legacy", which is the old 7.1.2 build that was in production before the upgrade a week & half ago (please note, Apple rules require us to brand this release 1.0). This build is now available in the App Store.  Please click here for directions on implementing the Handheld Contact Legacy software

If you have already moved to Handheld Contact Legacy but want to move back into the production version of Handheld Contact v7.3, please click here for instructions.

UPDATE: version 7.2.2 (released Sunday September 17th)
Please note that the minimum system requirement for Handheld Contact version 7.2.2 will be set at iOS 9.0 and higher.  Therefore, if you cannot find 'Handheld Contact' in the Apple App Store, you will need to upgrade the operating system of the device.  Click here for directions.

Please note that a new build for Handheld Contact is now available through the App Store for IOS devices, and includes the following fixes:

  • Fix for all mapped custom fields not displaying on device
  • Fix for keyword search not working with full contact names
  • Fix for display issues with recurring activities where they would either display on the wrong day, or on too many dates
  • Performance improvement with Monthly calendar

This is the third update in one week to address critical display issues reported by our customers.

While the integrity of the information syncing between Act! and Handheld Contact was never at issue, the accuracy of the data being displayed on IOS devices was not what our customers have come to expect.

Please accept our apologies for the disruption created these past few days. While the rollout of the fully rewritten version of our IOS application did not go as planned, we are now on better footing to build for the future. Handheld Contact subscribers can now look forward in the coming weeks and months to support for Opportunities, Secondary Contacts, Mapping of Contact Searches, and improved searches in HHC that could not have been possible under the previous software architecture.

If you have any questions regarding your account details or technical inquiries about updating your IOS device or using your HHC computer software, please click here to create a ticket.

UPDATE: version 7.2.1 (released Friday September 15th)

When upgrading to v7.2.1, if you go to the Apple App Store please look for version "7.2.1".  If you see 7.2 only, please do NOT download this version as the newer version replaces it.

We want to advise you of several things to expect with this new build:

  • If you are still on build 7.1, you will be prompted to login with your HHC credentials. This step is unavoidable due to your account information being previously stored in the old SQL Lite database format that has been upgraded.
  • For those that upgraded to 7.2, you will not be prompted to login again, but if you do a resend-all from your HHC software on your computer, we ask that you watch it complete the full initial download to your device. If your device times out during this process, an incomplete data download may result. Most devices download 1000 records per minute, so this process is normally pretty quick.
  • We have identified a User Interface (UI) bug with recurring activities that we could not fix in time to include in this release, but we hope to have it addressed next week.
  • If you sync a lot of custom fields, there is an issue where the data is sent to the device, but not always visible. This issue has already been fixed, but again could not be included in time for this release. This fix will also be available in next week's build.
If you have already completed the update, we recommend starting fresh by deleting the Handheld Contact app on the iPhone, resending all data from the Handheld Contact program on the computer, and reinstalling on the iPhone.  Please click here for reinstall directions.

If you are unaware of your Handheld Contact login credentials, please submit a ticket.

UPDATE: version 7.2 (released Wednesday September 13th)

We discovered an issue with this new build that did not surface during beta testing. In many cases, when the new build is loaded over top of the old 7.1 build, a "flush" command is being sent to the device which wipes any HHC data on it. You will also be forced to login into your HHC account when you first launch the app.

If you have not updated your HHC, please avoid doing so until further notice.

If you have already completed the update, we recommend starting fresh by deleting the Handheld Contact app on the iPhone, resending all data from the Handheld Contact program on the computer, and reinstalling on the iPhone.  Please click here for reinstall directions.
